In the light of Coronavirus, there are several incredible news that were in the shadow. UCLA which is ranked 14th worldwide according to US Today Global Rankings. UCLA and other top UC schools such as UC Berkely(UCB) have eliminated SAT requirements.
One of news is the University of California(UC) system eliminating the requirement of the Scholastic Assessment Test(SAT's) and some academic requirements which are still not announced, yet. The UC system has highly ranked and preeminent colleges in California. There are two major reasons for the elimination of SAT's and ACT's.
1) It is not fair for the college to choose candidates in 2020 who cannot do SAT/ACT testing from home since they are not privileged with technology, and good neighborhoods.
"The Covid-19 outbreak is a disaster of historic proportions disrupting every aspect of our lives, including education for high school students, and among other" UC President Janet Napolitano said in a statement.
2) Many Hispanic and African American communities are unrepresented in the UC System admissions due to their scores. This was unfair for some of the students as they didn't have the best resources, neighborhoods, education/schools, and communities.
It has also been proven that the SAT does not define a student to get into their dream school. UC's will still accept Collegboard/AP tests. They are planning on making it less stressful and therefore will make some exceptions for the year 2020. But they further stated that they will make their standardized tests.
