As the world ruptures in pieces of problems, it has put everyone in a coil of new changes which are now called the “new normal.” Things like getting used to the new “work-from-home,” staying home for too long, and on-line schooling. Parents facing dilemmas such as whether to make their kids go to on-site schooling or making them survive the on-line schooling since they might be subjunctive to the risks of catching COVID-19 in which their kids might be the ones who would spread this deadly virus. These difficult choices are yet unresolved. States like Iowa, Missouri, Arkansas, Texas, Florida have ordered in-person instruction which is available part-time or full time. There could be various premonitions formed against this action. Although there are safety procedures followed, it is still an unchancy decision to be approved.
South Korea: Taking Action
South Korea, a country located in East Asia. Its mandate for the children’s education to make on-line schooling for a long time is viewed as a proactive decision through the eyes of public officials. Its obligation to provide safety for families has cost them millions of dollars.
Last week, the education ministry earmarked more than $110 million for developing online textbooks and remodeling old schools to make them more digital-friendly over the next five years, Wall Street Journal.
But there were pre-existing advantages for S. Korea. They have over 95 percent of their population which has smartphones. This is a huge boon for the on-line education procedure. This tech-savvy nation filled with youth spirit has retrograded COVID-19. Education is being compromised as the classes are pre-recorded and live sessions are unaffordable. South Korea uses an education portal known as Edunet. An application that has a feature where students are allowed to submit their homework and view educational videos.
This has created issues such as school children are unable to clear their doubts, which causes a lack of test preparation and ultimately results in a lower grade in studies.
South Korea is accredited with continuous testing and belligerent contact-tracing.
Although South Korea has a population of 51.64 million, it’s stringent regulation across the country has given a glimmer of hope to fight this virus. The South Korea Center for Disease Control has banned more than 10 people gatherings. These recurring warnings to people have created obeying citizens. This bold decision and anticipation of South Korea government will hopefully influence the decision of numerous governments all over the world which are deciding to allow on-site schooling for full time.
