Updated: May 16, 2020

The death toll due to Covid-19 in the country rose to 1,783 while the number of cases climbed to 52,952 today, registering an increase of 89 deaths and 3,561 cases in the last 24 hours, the Union Health Ministry said. The number of active Covid-19 cases stood at 35,000+ cases while more than 15,000 people have recovered and one patient has migrated, it said. Thus, approximately 28 percent of patients have recovered so far. We can say that the increased testing capacity has revealed the real number of coronavirus cases in India. Earlier the testing capacity was very low but in the third phase of the lockdown India has ramped up its testing capacity. Meanwhile, in the third phase of the lockdown, India decided to open the liquor shops to recover the lost revenue. But the social distancing norms were violated due to which police forces had to take action. The unemployment rate has risen to 27%. Thousands of migrant workers from Mumbai started walking to their respective villages. There is no means of transport for them to travel in a suitable manner. However, if all of us support each other in a time of insecurities by just writing letters or making calls to your relatives and make them feel safe and not alone. Be grateful everyday that you have friends, family and basic resources like food and access to better healthcare to live in these dire circumstances.
