Are violent protests worth it?

Opinion: Continued activities of racism across the US has caused appalling reactions of people in the whole nation. Hundreds of people are constantly protesting and all are standing as a sturdy wall which will never be broken. There are mixed perspectives on the violent protests that are happening right now. Some are saying that burning of buildings, cars, and throwing garbage would not work. Others are protesting in large groups and are vandalizing every piece of construction and burning police cars. But is it worth it? Is it worth it to risk your life during this pandemic by protesting into large groups and not following social distancing?

As required by the CDC guidelines that social distancing is necessary to follow but that is violated by thousands of people around the nation. Millions of people want to change how racism has existed for decades in America. One person that uses power to impact the society negatively can ignite thousands of us who are able to impair their authority.

According to the Ca Times and the history, non violent protests are far more effective than violent protests. One of the examples are Mahatma Gandhi protesting by starving for 21 days against the British who were changing India's electoral system by caste. Another example is the Civil Rights Movement which was designed not to demonstrate violence and it was a successful campaign in U.S. History.

A study done by Erica Chenoweth who is professor of Human Rights and International Affairs at Harvard Kennedy School and Evan Perkoski at UCONN(University of Connecticut)who is an assistant professor in Political Science major and both had a consensus in their research that 70 percent of nonviolent protest succeeded.
